What do I bring/wear for my first Belly Dance class?
Anything that's comfortable and that you are able to stretch and move in. I recommend a t-shirt or tank top with sweat pants, yoga pants, shorts, leotards, or leggings. It's up to you if you want to bring a hip scarf or coin belt, but you are not required to for class. Please don't wear long or short skirts as some of the moves will require you to bend, or travel across the dance floor.

What are the best kind of shoes for Belly Dancing?
Bare feet is ideal for belly dance, but students may wear soft footwear like ballet shoes or jazz shoes. Socks can be dangerous on wooden floors so it's not recommended. Street shoes are not allowed.

How long does it take become a good dancer?
Good question. It depends on how committed you are. Practicing outside of class time definitely helps in progressing faster than just coming to class. It also helps you feel more confident when you come to class, since the techniques and routines will feel more familiar and comfortable.

I already have a dance background, should I start in Beginner?
A new dance or a different school might be very different from what you are used to. A beginner's class is a good way to get a feel for the instructors and the atmosphere of classes. You can always work with the instructor to find a level that's comfortable yet challenging enough for you.

How many classes should I take before progressing to the next level?
Our classes are designed to help students progress within 6-8 weeks depending on how many classes you take every week. However, this is not always the case. It really depends on the individual.

I am very uncoordinated and have never taken dance classes before, I'm not sure if this is right for me?
That's perfect! Learning something new is always a challenge at first. It's important to come to class and practice regularly in order to feel coordinated and comfortable in moving your body. Our classes are designed to break down the steps and routines into small manageable pieces and then drilled together through constant repetition. Don't worry, in time the movements will feel natural.

Will it help me lose weight?
As with any physical activity, dancing will help you lose weight. But in belly dancing, it doesn't matter what your body type is. The goal of our classes is to connect with our inner energies and have fun. Please check with your doctor to make sure you are medically fit to take dance classes.

I have injuries from other physical activities. Can I still take classes?
Yes, but please check with your doctor first. And let the instructors know that you have prior injuries. Whatever you share with us will be kept with strictest confidence.

HOW TO GET THE MOST OUT OF YOUR DANCE CLASSES

1. Show up to class on time. It becomes very difficult to catch up with the rest of the class even if you come just 15 minutes late.

2. Come to class consistently. Don't let two or three weeks go by between classes. Make your dance class a part of your weekly routine and you will quickly see improvement.

3. Pay close attention to your instructor. Don't mess around while the teacher is giving instruction. Keep your cell phone off because if you walk out to take a phone call, by the time you walk back in, you may find yourself playing a very difficult game of catch-up.

4. Keep yourself hydrated. Make sure you come into class with some fluids in your system and a bottle of water.

5. Practice on your own. Stand in front of mirror and try out the moves you have learned. Practice and application are essential to internalizing the steps.

6. Don't hide in the back. You want to be in the front as close to the instructor as possible. Ask the instructor questions before and after class. Pick their brain! It will help you get the most out of every class.
